Perfect Image Designers of Hair

They say every successful business starts with a dream.

Perfect Image Designers of Hair started with a dream too… although I’m fairly certain that dream did not include 32+ years of sweeping hair, drinking coffee that went cold three hours earlier, fixing fringes cut at home, listening to relationship dramas, finding bobby pins in places bobby pins should never be found, and saying, “Please don’t use box dye” more times than I could ever count.

But here we are, and I couldn’t be happier.

Perfect Image began more than three decades ago with a love of hairdressing, a determination to create something of my own, and probably a little bit of youthful confidence that made me think, “How hard can owning a salon really be?”

Turns out… reasonably hard!

But also incredibly rewarding.

More Than Just Hair

From the very beginning, I wanted Perfect Image to be somewhere people felt comfortable walking through the door.

Of course, we wanted to create beautiful hair — that part was obvious.

But I also wanted a salon where clients could relax, laugh, have a chat, tell us what had been happening in their lives and feel completely at home.

Over the years, we’ve celebrated engagements, weddings, babies, new jobs, divorces, milestone birthdays, big nights out and complete life reinventions.

We’ve heard stories that would make your hair curl — sometimes while we were actually curling your hair.

And what happens in the salon chair stays in the salon chair. 😉

Over The Years…

When you’ve been hairdressing as long as we have, you see trends come around, disappear and then suddenly become fashionable again.

We’ve survived perms.

We’ve survived extremely questionable fringes.

We’ve survived chunky foils.

We’ve watched everyone go blonde, then brunette, then balayage, then copper, then grey blending… and occasionally all of those things on the same person over several years.

But that’s one of the things I still love about hairdressing — it never stands still.

There is always something new to learn, a new technique to master and another client walking through the door ready for a change, and that’s what keeps it exciting!

But truthfully, it’s about the people.

Over the years, some incredible hairdressers, apprentices and personalities have been part of the Perfect Image team.

We’ve trained people, watched them grow, laughed until we cried, occasionally wanted to pull our own hair out, supported each other through difficult times and celebrated plenty of wonderful ones.

And then there are our clients.

Some have been coming to us for so many years that they’re no longer really clients — they’re part of the Perfect Image family.

We’ve done their hair, their children’s hair and, in many cases, now their grandchildren’s hair.

That is something we’re incredibly proud of.

32+ Years Later…

Perfect Image has changed a lot since those early days.

Styles have changed.

Products have changed.

Technology has changed.

Booking systems have changed.

My feet definitely complain more than they used to.

But the heart of the salon hasn’t really changed at all.

We still believe great hairdressing is about listening to people, being honest with them, having a laugh and making sure they leave the salon feeling better than when they walked in.

There have been brilliant years, difficult years, ridiculously busy Saturdays, quiet Tuesdays, renovations, staff changes, thousands upon thousands of foils, countless cups of coffee and enough swept-up hair to make many very large wigs.

And somehow, after all these years, I still love what we do.
